Abstract

623,212. Coating ferrous metal strip with aluminium. CHEMAL TRUST. Oct. 14, 1946, No. 30590. Convention date, Oct. 29, 1945. [Class 82(ii)] In the coating of ferrous metal strip with aluminium, the strip B is fed through a coating device 1 comprising two rotating brushes 2 and practically filled with an aluminium paste. The coated strip then passes between roller brushes 5, 6 in a container 3 filled with aluminium powder from a hopper 4, and then through a heating device 7 containing electric resistance elements and provided with inlet and outlet pipes 8, 9 for the passage of inert gas. The coated strip then passes between two superimposed chambers, through which cooling liquid is passed by pipes 13, 14, of a cooling apparatus 11, and then through a chamber 16 where it is passed, as shown, over rollers 17 covered with felt, flannel or melton. The aluminium paste comprises 48.5 per cent by weight of aluminium powder, 24 of turpentine, 14.5 of manganese borate, 6.5 of shellac, 5 of acetic ether and 1.5 of paraffin. The process is repeated until the desired thickness of coating is produced.
