Abstract

622,883. Cornish &c. boilers. JENSEN, S. E. J. M. April 11, 1947, No. 9740. [Class 123(ii)] [Also in Groups XXVI and XXXIV] A Cornish &c. boiler 10, normally fired by coal or oil, is additionally heated by one or more electric immersion elements &c. 8 which are located in a casing connected to the boiler by valved pipes 9 and are in circuit with one or more dynamos 6 adapted to be driven by a windmill 1 through shafts 4, 5 and interposed gearing 114. A fuse 12 is fitted between the dynamo 6 and heaters 8, and the dynamo shaft 5 is provided with a liquid governor 13 adapted to exert a braking effect in the event of the fuse blowing. The governor or brake 13 comprises a rotor 14, which is fixed to the shaft 5 and is provided with peripheral radial ducts (not shown), extending from apertures 16, and an associated stator 19, also provided with peripheral ducts mating with the rotor ducts. Disposed below these parts is a liquid tank 17 locating an archimedian screw 21 which is surrounded by a vertical casing 22, 22a and is rotated by the shaft 5 through gearing 24 to raise liquid from said tank to a trough 17a, from whence the liquid flows through the apertures 16 and the ducts in the rotor and stator 19, in succession, back to the tank for recirculation. The brake may be regulated for adjustment of the casing part 22a. which is mounted to rotate about an axis 22b, towards or away from the fixed part 22, and it is also fitted with a guide vane 26 for the liquid discharged therefrom.
