Abstract
622,737. Variable-speed gearing. MELDRUMS, Ltd., and WRIGHT, A. N. March 8, 1946, No. 7286. [Class 80 (ii)] A variable-speed drive for a stoker feed mechanism comprises a continuously rotated swash plate 18, Fig. 3, which oscillates a follower 20, secured to the outer member 22 of a one-way clutch, a variable amount controlled by an adjustable stop 50 co-operating with an arm 41 also carried by the clutch outer'member, which limits the engagement of the follower with the swash plate. The one-way clutch comprises rollers 26, Fig. 5, which transmit the drive in one direction to an inner member 24 secured to a shaft 28 carrying a gear 31 for driving the feed mechanism. A torsion spring 34 serves to maintain the follower 20 in engagement with the swash plate or the arm 41 against the stop 50. The stop 50 is provided by a screwed sleeve 43 which is moved axially by another outer sleeve 46 carrying a handle 49. Specification 622,738 is referred to. The Provisional Specification also refers to Specification 239,689, [Class 80 (iii)].
