Abstract
621,673. Locking nuts. WHISTANCE, K. J., and LEIGH, H. April 19, 1945, No. 9789. [Class 89 (i)] [Also in Groups XXII and XXIV] Relates to nuts of the type in which a recess houses one or more thin plates perforated to engage the thread of the bolt and consists in the use of plates at least one of which is displaced axially from the true lead position. The nut is recessed at 13 below the lowest plate in order to -permit this and the plates are spaced by rings 16, all the parts being secured by turning over the wall 12 of the recess. The plate spacing may be equal to or less than the pitch of the thread and the axial displacement is preferably towards the body of the nut. One or all. of the thin plates may be replaced by a pack of thinner plates. The edge of the hole in the plates is broken through at one place to permit the edge to take a helical formation.
