Abstract
621,658. Boring, facing and milling machines. KEARNS & CO., Ltd., H. W., and KEARNS, SIR H. W. L. Feb. 25, 1947, No. 5408. [Class 83 (iii)] A combined boring, facing and milling machine is provided with a change speed feed gearing in common for and with means for alternative connection to either a constant speed or a variable speed drive and includes pick-off gearing interposed in the constant speed drive. The pulley 1, driven at a constant speed, is secured to the input shaft of a main gear-box 10 from which an output shaft 9 is driven in forward or reverse directions. Pick-off gearing 11, 12, which may be a worm and worm-wheel or helical spur-wheels, is interposed in the drive from the shaft 9 to the shaft 18 leading into the common speed change feed gear-box h. Shaft 18 may be driven by shaft 9 or by vertical shaft 15 by manipulation of clutch j. Shaft 15 is driven at a variable speed (for feed in units of length per revolution) from the boring spindle e. A further pick-off wheel pair 24, 25 may be provided in the speed change box h between the drive from the shaft 18 and the output feed shafts 28 and 31, for the work table b, and for the boring spindle feed and feed of the facing slide respectively.
