[Class 143] [Also in Groups XIII, XXVIII and XXIX] Apparatus for periodically delivering measured quantities of liquid from a vessel and in particular for metering liquids and registering or recording quantity or rate of flow of liquids comprises a vessel supported by a supply pipe which is flexed by the load of the vessel and its contents, together with means for interrupting the supply and discharging the contents of the vessel when the displacement of the latter has reached a predetermined limit. As shewn in Fig. 1, a measuring vessel 1 is supported in cantilever fashion by a supply pipe 2 and by a pipe 3 through which gas under pressure may be supplied to the vessel for expelling its contents. Attached to the vessel 1 is an arm 7 connected through links 8, 15, to a pilot valve 16 which controls, through pipe 18, the operation of diaphragm valves 19 and 25 provided respectively in pipes 2 and 3. Fluid from a supply pipe 24 passes through valve 19 and pipe 2 to the vessel 1, pipes 2 and 3 flexing as the quantity in the vessel increases: when the contents of the vessel have reached a predetermined amount the arm 7 operates the pilot valve 16. As shewn in Fig. 6 the pilot valve has an inlet 36 for a supply of gas under pressure and an outlet 37 for connection to the diaphragm valves 19, 25. Operation of the pilot valve 16 connects the gas pressure supply via pipe 18 to the diaphragm valves and causes them to operate: valve 19 disconnects pipe 2 from the supply pipe 24 and connects it to a discharge pipe 24a: valve 25 disconnects pipe 3 from an outlet to atmosphere (not shewn) and connects it to a source of gas under pressure via pipe 27. The contents of the vessel 1 are thus expelled by pressure and when the vessel has restored to its normal position the pilot valve 16 operates to restore valves 19 and 25 and the cycle of operations recommences. Appropriate registering means may be provided to count the number of times the vessel has been filled.
