621,131. Motor-propelled bicycles. SOC. ANON. MOTO GARELLI. April 5, 1946, No. 10587. Convention date, April 7, 1945. [Class 79 (iii)] A device for the propulsion of bicycles or the like comprises a motor, for instance an internal combustion or electric motor, pivotally mounted on the frame of the bicycle and situated beneath the bottom bracket, a single pressure roller or the equivalent which is kept in contact with the tread of the back tyre, a gearing on one side only of the motor for transmitting movement to said roller and thereby to the back wheel, the motor and the transmission members being free to oscillate about an axis parallel to the wheel axis, preferably in the vicinity of the pedal axis and resilient means keeping the roller constantly pressed against the tread of the tyre. As shown an internal combustion motor 1 drives through gearing 5, 6 the pressure roller 9, the whole pivoting about a bracket 4 secured to the 'chain stays of the frame 3. A spring 10 urges the pressure roller 9 against the back tyre 8. Specification 580,067 is referred to.
