Abstract

620,815. Seats. CLAYTON DEWANDRE CO., Ltd., and EDGE, S. H. Jan. 27, 1947, No. 2497. [Class 52 (ii)] A vehicle seat is mounted on a frame slidable in fixed guides, the frame being movable by the piston of a vacuum cylinder and a hand controlled valve is provided to place the cylinder in communication with the vacuum source or with the atmosphere the valve having means for locking the seat in adjusted position. The seat 2 is mounted on a supporting frame 3, 4 which is arranged to slide on guides 5 fixed to the vehicle floor. The piston rod 8 of a double-acting vacuum cylinder 6 is connected to the supporting frame 3, 4 and the cylinder 6 is connected to a source of vacuum through conduits 9, 10 selectively through a valve having an operating handle 17. Fig. 4 shows the provision of a singleacting vacuum cylinder in which the seat is moved in one direction by a source of vacuum and manually in the other direction means also being provided for locking the seat in any desired position. As shown the cylinder 26 is in communication with the atmosphere through port 28, slidable valve tube 29 and ports in the outer casing. To operate the device the rod 37 is moved longitudinally to withdraw its nose 39 from one of a series of grooves 25 in the piston rod 24 and so unlock it the rod 37 is then rotated to cause a cam 38 to move a rod 45 to close, by means of a disc valve 46, the valve tube 29 and also move it longitudinally thereby causing a disc valve 31 provided with a resilient annulus 32, to be moved off its seat and so place the port 28 in communication with the source of vacuum through a conduit screwed'to the cylinder nipple 33.
