Abstract

620,448. Resilient mountings. S.A.G.A. SOC. APPLICAZIONI GOMMA ANTIVIBRANTI. Jan. 17, 1947, No. 1665. Convention date, Jan. 17, 1946. [Class 108 (iii)] In a. resilient suspension of the type in which two rigid members are connected by a resilient link of rubber subjected to shear-flexion load and disposed with its longitudinal axis transverse to the direction of relative movement of the rigid members, to which it is bonded at each end, the stiffness of the rubber of the link is progressively graded so that the link is of differential stiffness along its length, being a maximum at the two ends of the link and diminishing towards the centre of the length, where it is a minimum. In the construction shown, the resilient link 3 is formed of a series of layers a-g. The difference in stiffness of the layers may be obtained by the use of varying numbers of sheets of reinforcing fabric. The respective layers may be united by means of fabric insertions. The rigid members 1, 2 are adapted to be moved parallel in relation to each other under load, from the position (shown in full lines) to the loaded position (shown dotted). The members 1, 2 have load-bearing flanges 4, 5. Specification 535,259 is referred to.
