Abstract

271,746. Gebauer, C. P. Nov. 23, 1926. Springs, arrangement of.-A spring suspension for vehicles in which the torque of the axle is taken by a torque tube. or equivalent means, comprises a single laminated spring on each side of the vehicle, pivoted to the axle at a point intermediate its ends so as to constitute a lever with arms of different lengths, one arm serving to support the load while the other bears on a point fixed in relation to the axle. The spring 1, 2 is pivoted at 3 to parts 5 of a beam 6 rigid with the axle 4, the spring being arranged beneath the axle. The short arm 1 supports the frame 8 through a rod 7, and the long arm 2 bears against a surface 11 on the beam 6 by means of interposed slides 10 or roller bearings. The slides 10 may be replaced by a shackle connector. The beam 6 preferably comprises a duplex cellular structure carried bv a sleeve 9 rigidly secured on the. axle 4. torque being taken by the torque tube 12. The spring mav be inclined as shown, and, when unloaded, is of curved form having a radius of curvature decreasing towards the ends of the spring.
