Abstract

478,248. Vehicle -suspension stabilizing-means. GREAVES, R July 14, 1936, No. 19490. [Class 108 (ii)] In vehicle wheel-suspensions wherein the wheels are controlled by doublearmed levers the levers have their inner or shorter arms connected to the spring-loaded equalizer so as to be in tension under no-load conditions and whereby the load-carrying capacity increases with the loading. As shown the wheel axles are supported by springs 3 and each wheel or each end of the both axles are connected to double-armed levers 5 pivoted to the chassis at 6 while the inner or short arms are connected by links 6x to shackles 7 pivoted to the chassis at 8 the ends of the shackles being connected by links 9 to diametrically-opposed arms 11 of an equalizer comprising a floating torsion rod or laminated spring, the arrangement being that the links 6x and inner arms are in alignment under noload conditions. If desired the springs 3 may be dispensed with and the spring suspension will then depend wholly on the equalizing spring 10. The wheels may be independently sprung by means of the lover arms, the rigid axles being dispensed with.
