[Class 108 (ii)] [See also Group XXXI] In an independent wheel suspension for motor vehicles of the kind in which each stub-axle carrier is supported from the chassis by means of a transverse laminated spring 1 in association with a hinged link 5 and is further guided by means of a pivoted radius rod 13, the axis 18, Fig. 3, about which the rod 13 pivots on the chassis is arranged in the same substantially horizontal plane as the pivot axes 9 of the spring 1 on the carriers 8, the object being to prevent the spring 1 from being subjected to bending stresses in an horizontal plane. The axis 18 is constituted by a short axle mounted between supports 20 on a transverse frame member 19, and the inner ends of the rods 13 are hinged thereto on each side of a spacing member 22, the other ends of the rods 13 being connected to the carriers 8 by bolts 17, Fig. 1. The hinges 7, 9, 18 associated with the links 5, spring 1, and rods 13 respectively are preferably of an elastic nature, having liners or sleeves of rubber. Deflectable axle-ends. The track-rod is formed in two halves 26, which are fitted with screwed extensions 28, Fig. 5, so that their length can be initially adjusted, and the inner ends of the extensions 28 resiliently engage a ball 33 mounted upon a pivoted lever 34. The controlling springs 37 operate between the heads 29 of the extensions 28 and flanged rings 38 screwed into an enclosing sleeve 39. Supporting radiators. The member 3 to which the rods 5 are pivoted is supported on a transverse frame member 4, and has pivoted to it by an elastic joint 42 a fitting 41 to which the radiator 40 is secured.
