Abstract

<PICT:0620021/III/1> Apparatus for the extraction of oil from seeds &c., by the use of a solvent, for example, benzene, is provided with a filter of sinuous form, the area of which is greater than the cross-sectional area of the extracting vessel or an opening therein, with which the filter is associated. As shown, an extracting vessel 1 is provided with a filter consisting of a sinuous filter plate 2 located inside a perforated cylinder 3. The cylinder has rings 4, 5, the upper ring being flanged and being supported on a door 12 which is hinged to the extractor. A rotatable shaft 23, carrying blades 25, is provided for use in stirring the contents of the extractor. Solvent may be supplied through an opening 18 at the bottom or an opening 26 at the top of the extractor, being discharged through an opening 27 or through the opening 18. The opening 27 is associated with a filter 28 similar to the filter 2. The extractor is provided with a pocket 33 which may be heated by fluid or electrically.
