Abstract

619,773. Ice-gripping attachments for boots. FIRSOFF, V. May 6, 1946, No. 13605. [Class 17 (ii)] [Also in Group XV] A device for attachment to boots to assist in climbing steep inclines of ice and snow comprises a lazy-tongs system of levers with snow and ice gripping spikes underneath, and having upstanding lugs at the ends of some or all of the levers, these lugs being provided with means for the reception or connection of flexible attachment straps adapted to be secured over the boot when the lever system is elongated longitudinally with the lugs engaging the sides of the boot. The device may comprise two or more lazy-tongs systems of levers flexibly connected with one another, for example by means of two or more chain links. Fig. 3 shows one form of the device in which two lever systems are linked together.
