Abstract
619,364. Condensers. HUNT, Ltd., A. H., and GROUSE, R. A. Dec. 4, 1946, No. 35956. [Class 37] In a condenser consisting of metallized paper strips 11, 12 wound in a coil, the ends of which are sprayed with metal to carry terminals, each layer of metal 13 being joined to the sprayed metal at one end 21 or 22 and spaced from the other end by an unmetallized margin 19 or 16 of the paper strips, the latter are wound flat (i.e. without their edges being turned over) with their edges flush (i.e. without being staggered), so that the metallized layers contact the sprayed metal edgewise. The paper may be metallized with aluminium, and molten copper is sprayed on the ends from a spray gun, or zinc-coated paper may be sprayed with zinc. The ends of the rolls may be masked along a diameter during spraying, so that the condenser may be impregnated with fluid through the unsprayed portions. The paper may be half a mil. thick, and the metallization 0.0001 inch thick produced by evaporation in vacuo as described in Specification 503,851.
