Abstract
598,817. Condensers. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES, Ltd., UNITED INSULATOR CO., Ltd., MILLER, J. L., and MACFARLANE, L. Sept. 12, 1945, No. 23479. [Class 37] In a composite condenser having a zero or other required temperature coefficient comprising two condensers structurally united each consisting of a plate of ceramic material with metallised surfaces 3, the two materials 1, 2 having different coefficients of capacitance variation with temperature, a metallised face of one condenser fits against a metallised face of another condenser so as to be in surface contact therewith and is metallically united thereto by soldering or brazing. More than two condensers may be thus combined. The materials may be rutile and magnesium titanate, the surfaces being silvered by painting or spraying with silver oxide solution and then firing at 700‹ C. The faces to be joined may be tinned and heated under pressure. The plates may be flat or tubular. The condensers are connected in series or parallel. The plates may have projections 10, and the inner coatings may extend over the edges of the plates up to these projections and the terminal 6 is soldered at 8 to the coatings ; or the terminals may be soldered in metallised grooves in the plates. The temperature coefficient may be finally adjusted by scraping away part of the exposed metal coating.
