Abstract
618,643. Door locks. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION.. Nov. 7, 1946, No. 33070. Convention date, Dec. 8, 1945. [Class 44] A door latch, particularly for a motor vehicle, has a pivoted cam 29, Fig. 7, adjustably mounted on the door post for engagement by a spring actuated pivoted latch 39 on the door, and a trigger 45 to hold the latch against rotation so that the cam rotates as the door closes. Mechanism is provided for releasing the trigger to allow the latch to rotate as the door opens. The latch is accommodated in a wedge-shaped case 25 entering a recess in the door frame 17. The casing is supported by a spring-urged sliding wedge 33. The trigger may be released from the outside of the door by a U-shaped sliding handle 75, Fig. 6, connected through levers 77, 79 to a slidable plate 95 carrying a lug 99, Fig. 6. This engages in a recess, 101 in a spring loaded plate 103 having a pin and slot mounting and carrying a lug 109 engaging the lower end of the trigger. This handle is rendered ineffective by a vertically. sliding rod 117, Fig. 6, which causes the plate 103 to tilt so that the lug 99 is out of engagement with the recess 101 and the trigger is held in the locking position. The trigger is operable from inside by a press-button connected by a lever and a rock-shaft to a crank-shaft 71 having a squared end engaging in a square recess 73 in the trigger boss 53. The press-button is rendered ineffective by. depressing and rotating the vertical rod 117. This causes a lug 129 to engage a lug 131 on the rock-shaft and prevent its rotation. An external key-lock is provided having a curved arm 138, Fig. 6, engaging a lug on the plate 103 to tilt same so that the operating lug 99 is out of engagement with the recess 101. A safety catch 125, Fig. 7, slidable on a pin 107 is arranged to engage with a recess in the wedge 33 as the door closes before the main latch is locked. This prevents accidental opening. The catch 125 is lifted against its spring by rotation of the trigger when the door is opened.
