Abstract

618,154. Making cutlery. SPRAGUE, T. W. Oct. 28, 1946, No. 31902. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Tapering by rolling.- Cutlery is produced by cutting a parallel strip to produce an untapered blade blank, cold rolling diagonally to form a blade tapered in two directions and then welding a bolster and a tang to the blade. The bolster may be formed by drop stamping and the tang may be formed of mild steel. The diagonal rolling is effected by rolls 2 with eccentric peripheral recesses. A picker 10 actuated by an adjustable cam 5 and an adjustable lever 7 may effect the blank feed.
