Abstract
617,707. Cycle pedals. BANE, L. R., and CONSTRICTOR TYRE CO., Ltd. Oct. 21, 1946, No. 31279. [Class 136 (ii)] In a cycle pedal, an upstanding member 9 which prevents outward slipping of the rider's foot off the pedal is formed as a separate member and secured by means of a nut 7 and bolt 8 to the free ends of inwardly curved outward extensions 5<SP>1</SP>, 6<SP>1</SP> of the end plates 5, 6 of the pedal upon which the rider's foot is supported. The member 9 comprises a metal stamping or pressing consisting of a plane portion with a central aperture for the bolt 8, and a parallel portion displaced laterally from the apertured portion. The member 9 may be held in position with its parallel portion disposed either inwardly or outwardly. Also, the upstanding member 9 may be held between the ends of the extensions 5<SP>1</SP>, 6<SP>1</SP>, or between the head of the bolt 8 and the inner extension 6<SP>1</SP>, or between the nut 7 and the outer extension 5<SP>1</SP>. Metal tongues 9<SP>1</SP> are formed in the member 9 to engage in slots 11, 12 in the members 5<SP>1</SP>, 6<SP>1</SP>.
