[Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVII] A control system for a two-phase A.C. servomotor, of the type in which first and second stator phase windings are connected to constant and variable voltage sources respectively, the speed and direction of rotation of the motor being dependent upon the current supplied to the second phase winding, is provided with current-restricting means in association with the first phase winding which are regulated by means responsive to current derived from the circuit of the second phase winding, so as automatically to reduce the current supplied to the first phase winding when the current in the second phase winding is zero, thereby preventing overheating of the motor by idle current and accidental operation of the motor when it should be at rest. The first phase winding may be connected in series with a coil of a choke the core of which is adapted to be saturated by rectified current derived from the supply to the second phase winding. Alternatively, the first phase winding may be provided with a variable series resistance which is automatically controlled by an electromagnet energized by current derived from the second phase winding circuit.
