Abstract

617,691. Awning for vehicles. DAWTRY, C. R. Oct. 17, 1946, No. 30879. [Class 108 (i)] The awning 7 for a caravan, or other vehicle, extends on either side of a roller 1, to which it is secured at its centre, the roller 1 being mounted longitudinally on the roof 3 of the caravan and pivoting in end brackets 2 secured thereto. The roller 1 is supported intermediately of brackets 2 by one or more resiliently mounted rollers 17 in brackets 16 and the awning 7 has a stiffening member 11 I at each end, the members 11 being connected at each end to stay bars 12 which are pivoted at the ends of the vehicle. The roller 1 may be of a tubular form, having a groove along its outside edge in which the awning 7 is secured and an internal torsion spring for automatic winding up ; alternatively roller 1 may be divided along its length into two semi-circular section members between which the awning 7 is clamped, suitable spring-loaded or manual means being provided at the ends for winding up. The awning extending on each side of the roller is wound or unwound simultaneously.
