Abstract

616,930. Cores for moulding concrete. JONES, W. L. Sept. 23, 1946, No. 28428. [Class 87 (ii)] A box-like core has its side or sides formed of a plurality of parts movable peripherally to take up contraction of the concrete on setting. Fig. 7 shows a section through a tapering core of square section consisting of four overlapping sheet-metal members 1, 2, 3, 4, each sheet being as long as the core and each having five walls, e.g. 11a, 11b, 12, 13, 14, inter-fitting to form a hollow prism at the centre of the core. Into this prism fits a rod 7 which is swaged over at one end to overlap the edges of the central prism and hence to provide a means of withdrawing the core. When the rod 7 is not in position the core may be collapsed, the sheets 1, 2, 3, 4 taking up the positions shown in Fig. 8. Rectangular, triangular and circular section cores may be built up in a similar manner.
