616,863. Preventing incrustation. GAMLEN, H., GAMLEN, H. C., and GAMLEN, J. E., (trading as GAMLEN CHEMICAL CO.). Sept. 16, 1946, No. 27698. Convention date, Aug. 11, 1945. [Class 123(i)] Formation of scale in sea water evaporators is prevented by adding a hydrophilic colloid in quantity sufficient to form a gelatinous film on the surface of the evaporator in contact with the sea water. Especially suitable are the algins and a cellulose derivative, carboxy methyl cellulose, used alone or with alkaline material, phosphates and/or tannins, including cutch quebracho &c.
