616,706. Testing and calibrating meters. UNION D'ELECTRICITE. April 3, 1946, Nos. 10257 and 10258. Convention dates, Jan. 19, 1944, and March 3, 1944. [Class 37] [Also in Group XX] A supply meter 7 is tested by stroboscopic comparison with a standard meter 1 fed with the same current. The observer views the teeth of the rotor 6 with light from a point source 3 interrupted by the graduations of rotor 2. To enable tests to be made at various loads, resistances 14 may be plugged in series with the meters, a switch 16 allowing, each resistance to be replaced by a high resistance lamp 15 at will. The standard meter 1 is preferably provided with a switch introducing errors of + 3 per cent and - 3 per cent so that if the meter under test is accurate it will appear to move in the opposite direction to its real motion in one position of the switch, and in the direction of its real motion in the other position of the switch, Fig. 2 (not shown). Where the meters are designed to rotate at different speeds for the same input, the test meter has the graduations on its rotor varied, or the speed of the rotor of the test meter is adjusted by adjusting the potential applied to the voltage coil.
