Abstract

616,406. Reciprocating-saw machines. MILLERS FALLS CO. Sept. 4, 1946, Nos. 26605, 26606 and 26607. Convention dates, Oct. 18, 1945, Oct. 19, 1945, and May 18, 1946. [Class 145 (ii)] A machine hack-saw blade spring tensioner has additional means for restraining or confining the spring to prevent serious consequences on failure of any part through which the spring acts, comprising in the form shown in Fig. 3 a stop nut 7 which is adjusted to near contact with the abutment washer 16 of the loading spring 20. The spring pressure is adjusted by rotating the threaded sleeve 4 and indicated by a pointer 18. An anti-friction bearing 14 is interposed between the tensioner and the saw frame. In a modification, Fig. 7, a hydraulic cushioning device is employed in the form of an oil cylinder 34 around a prolongation 31 of the tensioner stem and a ring 32 with only a small clearance in the cylinder.
