616,122. Treating boiler feed water. AUXILIAIRE DES CHEMINS DE FER ET DE L'INDUSTRIE., and ARMAND, L. F. Aug. 28, 1946, No. 25794. Convention date, May 7 1942. [Class 123(i)] To prevent incrustration and priming, boiler feed water is treated by adding per cubic metre of water:-2 grammes of tanning extracts (60 per cent tannin) 10 grammes of alkali metal (e.g. sodium) carbonate per degree of permanent hardness, and 1 gramme of caustic alkali (NaOH) per degree of total hardness. The water is then drawn off from the boiler in successive amounts in order to remove mud and limit the concentration of soluble salts in the boiler water.
