Abstract

615,526. Extruding-machines. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE. July 3, 1945. No. 16954. Convention date, May 11, 1940. [Class 87 (ii)] The width of a strip 5 of rubber or other material which is fed to an extrusion screw 3 by a conveyer 6 is regulated, in order to control the amount of material fed to the screw. The material 10 is flattened between two rollers 8, 9 and the strip is cut therefrom by circular cutters 11 which are pivoted at 12 and pressed against the roller 9 by a weight 13. The cutters are mounted on a shaft 18, one on each of two counter-acting screw threads. The operator alters the spacing of the cutters by operating a motor 21 to turn the shaft 18. The width of the strip is much less than the width of the cylinder feed orifice 4, and the strip, if fed quickly, collects in zig-zag fashion on an inclined plane leading to the screw. The machine is used to coat electric wires and cables.
