Abstract

615,462. Sand-blast. BRUSH ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., COLLINSON, E. O., and DUNN, W. M. March 26, 1946, No. 9232. [Class 60] A nozzle for abrasive blasting, particularly suitable for cleaning turbine blading in both axial flow and radial flow turbines while such blading is in place in the rotor, disc, cylinder or casing, comprises a unitary member affording two conduits (side by side), comprising a main conduit 1 (for the abrasive material) terminating in a discharge orifice 3 and a gas conduit 2 which has a lateral exit 5 beyond said orifice 3 and functions to direct a blast of gas (e.g. air) across said orifice to divert the stream of emerging abrasive. The main conduit 1 has its end cut slightly obliquely to its length so that the orifice 3 faces slightly down-stream of the gas blast. To prevent choking of the nozzle, the wall of the main conduit 1 is provided with a series of escape ports 4 for the gaseous medium which conveys the abrasive to the nozzle, the abrasive travelling to the orifice 3 by its own momentum. The conduits 1, 2 are preferably cold-drawn steel tubes, the lower part of 2 being welded or bronzed to 1. Specification 277,071, [Class 60], is referred to.
