Abstract

615,226. Linear-dimension gauges. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE. Jan. 24, 1946, No. 2419. Convention date, Sept. 4, 1944. [Class 106 (ii)] A device for observing or measuring the diameter of an object in which two identical images of the object are projected, without inversion of one with respect to the other, on to a-screen so as to touch for a predetermined value of the diameter to be measured comprises a light source 1 in the focus of a lens 2 constituting a collimator system. An objective 3 produces an enlarged image of the cable 5, 6 on a ground glass screen 8. An image doubling device is provided at the image focus 7 of the objective 3. This image doubling device may be in the form of a prism or two plane mirrors which turn independently of each other round a common axis. The two images are adjusted so that they touch, giving a uniform shading on the glass. Any deviation in the diameter of the cable will show as a dark or light band.
