Abstract

614,773. Machinery guards. BERKEL & PARNALL'S SLICING MACHINE MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. (Maatschappij van Berkel's Patent N. V., in part). July 29, 1946, No. 22454. [Class 80 (iv)] A slicing machine is provided with a shield 24 which substantially masks the front of the rotary knife 11, except at the slicing station, and which is removably secured to an arcuate guard member 13 which extends round and over the edge of the knife other than at the slicing station so that even with the shield 24 removed the edge of the knife is guarded. The shield has an edge turned over at 26 to engage the guard 13 and is secured by a pin-and-slot connection 27, 28 and a screw 29. A portion 30 of the guard 13 is provided to cover the sharpening zone of the knife when a knife grinding device (not shown) is inoperative. A readily detachable plate 19 may be secured to the face of the guard 13 to be quickly removed for cleaning.
