Abstract

Viscose spinning baths are subjected to vaporization at low temperature under high vacuum to effect crystallization of the sodium sulphate, and the vapours so produced are absorbed in sulphuric acid of desired concentration conducted in circulation. The heat liberated is absorbed in the sulphuric acid and utilized by passage of the acid through a heat exchanger. The bath to be cooled is fed at 11, Fig. 2, to a crystallization apparatus 12 operating under high vacuum, the extraction of the salt and bath being effected at 13. A pipe 14 connects the crystallizer with a sulphuric acid washing-apparatus 15 through which the acid p circulates, absorbing both the vapours produced <PICT:0614002/IV(a)/1> by the evaporation of the bath and the heat liberated during the crystallization. Thus, the vacuum-producing ejector 18 conveys only those vapours incapable of condensation. Steam is supplied to the ejector at 19. The acid after absorbing the vapours &c. is passed to a heat exchanger 20, other liquids in the circulation system 24 being heated. The bath may be cooled prior to its final cooling in the system, and, if desired, the vaporization apparatus may be divided into a plurality of stages, each working at a higher vacuum.
