Abstract
613,872. Fluid-actuated valves. OAKES, E. C. March 26, 1946, No. 9240. [Class 135] [Also in Group XVIII] A valve for a hydraulic control system comprises upper and lower pistons 35 and 36 respectively, mounted a fixed distance apart on a hollow shaft 34 which is slidable in a cylinder 42 having inlet ports 38 and an outlet port 53. The valve is maintained open by gravity to permit water to be supplied from a pipe 47 to a reservoir via a pipe 39 until the water-level in the reservoir exceeds a predetermined value and flows down a stand-pipe 40 and the shaft 34 to be delivered through apertures 41 to a space beneath the piston 36, which is slightly smaller in area than piston 35. The valve is then raised and piston 36 closes the inlet ports 38. A suitable dash-pot arrangement is provided.
