Abstract
613,579. Vehicle hoods. GARDINER, W. H. June 19, 1946, No. 18347. [Class 108 (i)] A hoodstick 3 for the flexible hood 1 of a motor or other vehicle is pivoted at 4 to the sides of the body and is provided at its upper ends with cantrails 6 hinged about vertical axis 7 and having free outer ends, the cantrail being adapted to fold back against the hoodstick in the collapsed position of the hood. The cantrails may be forced upwards to stretch the fabric by means of springs and a further hinged piece or pieces extended by collapsable tubing may be provided on the cantrails to extend longitudinally or transversely of the vehicle to provide further support. Transverse bars may be attached to the hood fabric and/or cantrails for positioning the cantrails relative to the hood fabric and vehicle. A similar device may be attached to the windscreen 8 to open rearwardly of the vehicle.
