Hoods for motor vehicles comprise a frame carrying flexible hood material and formed of one or more hoop-sticks a, b which are telescopic in width and are detachably received in sockets c on the vehicle body so that they can be removed and telescoped to permit the hood to be stowed away in the body. The hoop-sticks a, bare tubular and one leg of each is welded or otherwise secured to a barrel d into which the other leg telescopes against the action of a spring e. The hood is stowed away behind the seats and: may be held in place by sockets &c.
