Abstract
613,577. Cable-laying apparatus. CLARK, P. F. June 18, 1946, No. 18317. [Class 36] A cable-laying apparatus comprises a trolley 10 and a cable-supporting structure 11 mounted on the trolley and able to swivel thereon, the supporting structure carrying guide members 48, 52, through which the cable is led, enabling it to be laid along a path offset with respect to the direction of travel of the trolley. The structure 11 is rigidly mounted on a base 14 provided with supports 15 upon which ramp members 16 are mounted. To raise the cable drum 17 ori to the apparatus the guide roller 48 and the cross beam 49 are removed and an axle shaft 18 is passed through the central hole of the cable drum 17. The winch 33 and pulley gear 30, 31 are operated to allow the inverted U-shaped structure 20, 21 to be pivoted about pins 22 until hooks 28 can be secured to axle shaft 18, when the winch 33 is reversed and the drum 17 drawn up the ramp 16. The guide roller 48, which is concave in axial section, is replaced and pivoted to the ramp at 51 and the cross beam 49 carrying roller frame 52 is secured. The cable end is then led over roller 48 and through frame 52. A locking-pin (not shown), is removed from platforms 13, 14 and the structure 11 is slewed round to the desired position, where it is locked. The carriage is drawn by means of tow bar 58 and the cable paid off into a trench. A plough may be secured to cross beam 49 to make the trench at the same time. Specification 560,820 is referred to.
