[Class 131] In a dry shaver the cutter head unit comprises two cutters each having a reciprocating cutting blade and co-operating stationary guard plate the cutting surfaces being of different curvatures so that they conform to differently curved parts of the face and may be applied selectively to the skin. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the slotted guard plates 14, 15 integral with extensions 10b of a base member 10 are rigidly connected by a reinforcing rib 16 which supports a spring 18b rotatably supporting rollers 18, 19 on which bear the free edges 17f, 17g of the cutter blades 17d 17e. The cutter is reciprocated by the drive shaft 26 and is urged into resilient contact with the guard plate by a spring carriage 20 mounted on the underside of the base 17a and shaped to provide legs 21a carrying rollers 22 which engage the top surface of the base 10. The carriage 20 is spot welded to a carrier plate 24 clamped to the cutter base 17a by its upturned ends 24a and having extensions 23 forming closure plates. Cut hair from the inside of the cutter is discharged through apertures 31 to containers in the body of the dry shaver. In a modification, the cutter structure can be moved sideways by a manually-operated pin, pivoting of the free edges of the cutter blades on the roller 18, 19 taking place, so that the guard and cutter of only one side are in operative contact. In further modifications the bearing connections between the free edges of the cutter blades and the rollers 18, 19, is of a swivel type so that in the latter form both rollers will enter into the bearing connection in either lateral position of the cutter, the end closure plates are removable, and the connections with the drive modified so that the carriage plate and associated rollers are not reciprocated.
