Abstract

612,831. Springs. GARLOCK PACKING CO. Jan. 15, 1946, No. 1425. Convention date, Feb. 9, 1945. [Class 108 (iii)] In a garter spring having two or more extensible portions 21 and two or more non- extensible portions 22 arranged alternately in co-acting end-to-end relationship substantially in circular form with the portions 22 constituting a major part of the circumference, the extensible portions 21 constitute direct inter-connections between adjacent ends of the portions 22 to hold them all together as a unit. The spring may be applicable to the oil-seal constructions described in Specification 612,830, [Group XXVI], and as shown the extensible portions 21 are in the form of compression springs having threaded engagement with the ends of the portions 22. In a second construction, Figs. 1 and 1a (not shown), the portions 21 may be tension springs having a hooked engagement with the portions 22. The portions 22 may be flexible.
