Abstract

612,753. Bridges. ROPER, E. W. May 31, 1946, No. 16618. [Class 20(i)] [Also in Group XV] Short span bridges capable of carrying light vehicular or pedestrian traffic are constructed from a series of support members a, Fig. 1, each comprising a substantially horizontal base 1 and having spaced arms 2 extending vertically from the base, and a series of connector members b, Fig. 2, having means for interlocking with the bases and arms of the support members so that the said support members may be connected together in spaced parallel alignment. The support members comprise U-shaped pieces of sheet metal of suitable size and strength with a strengthening rib 5 embossed thereon if desired. The upper ends of the arms have slots 4 formed in the inwardly extending portions 3 to provide hook-like portions. The connector members are made in the same material and comprise a generally rectangular body 6 formed with extensions 7 and 8 provided wiht slots 7a, 8a respectively. The upper and lower edges are provided with lugs 9 at right-angles to the body 6. The slots 7a are engaged in slots 4 of member a positioning the slots 8a to fit tightly over the bases 1 of adjacent support members. Floor members may be provided, formed from sheet metal material and provided with upstanding lugs 12 upon which the lugs 9 of the connector members may fit, the main part of the floor resting upon the bases 1 of support members a. The bridge may be of whatever length is desired.
