Abstract

612,366. Bottle stoppers. ARNDT, L. A., and GERSTEL, M. M. May 21, 1946. No. 15378. [Class 125 (iii)] A bottle closure member 14, adapted to be retained in engagement with the neck by partial rotation relative thereto, has a cylindrical blind bore 15 for engagement with the cylindrical neck 11, interengaging flange and groove portions 13, 16 being provided on the surface of the bottle neck and inner surface of the closure member, and diametrically opposite sides of the bottle neck and of the closure member being cut away or flattened sufficiently to break into and interrupt the flange 13 and groove 16, and to allow disengagement thereof. As shown, the closure is retained in the closed position by the engagement of one or more spring pressed plungers 20 in the closure member with dimples 26 in the neck. To remove the closure member, it is turned through 90 degrees (Fig. 2) and lifted from the bottle, a boss 17 on the bottle neck fitting in a recess 19 in the closure member to form a bearing for rotation of the latter. In a modification, an interrupted flange on the closure member engages an interrupted groove in the bottle neck.
