611,265. Temperature-responsive actuating elements. GRANT, C. R. A. April 25, 1946, No. 12557. '[Class 64(ii)] [Also in Group XX] A pressure-operated temperature controlling device comprises an outer sheath 1 and a tubular inner member 4 of differing coefficients of expansion, in which the end 3 of the inner member inside the sheath is in the form of a valve co-operating with a valve seat 2 inside the sheath, and the other end 9 passes through the end 8 of the sheath and receives air at constant pressure. The end 7 of the sheath, containing the valve 3 and valve seat 2 is located inside the furnace 10 whose temperature is to be controlled and the flow of air from the inner member 4 to the end 6<1> of the sheath and through the valve varies with that temperature because of the differential expansion of the valve 3 relative to the seat 2. This varying air flow is taken from the sheath 1 by a tube 11 to a restrictor 12 associated with a pressure-operated controlling device 14.
