Abstract
610,803. Automatic control systems for guiding projectiles. SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO., Inc. May 13, 1942, No. 6529. Convention date, July 8, 1941. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XL (c)] The directional radiator for guiding a projectile towards its target is controlled by a predictor system. As shown, the predictor 172 by means of selsyn transmission systems of known kind controls a gun 185 in altitude and azimuth and at the same time the radiator 171. Manual means 186, 187 allow the radiator to be moved independently of the gun when the projectile is near its target. The projectile is provided with aerials at spaced points and these in accordance with the energy that they receive, control valves causing blasts of compressed air or carbon dioxide to be emitted in the direction to keep the projectile to the beam. Alternatively, the projectile may be controlled by adjustable fins.
