Abstract

1446362 Automatic control of missile H FAHRENKROG 8 Jan 1974 [8 Jan 1973] 777/74 Heading G3R In a system for steering a missile to a target in inclination and azimuth, using unspecified data relating to the position of the missile and target at 1 to obtain the actual angle #tg of the target from the missile (the inclination channel only is shown), a signal #tgs for the desired angle immediately before impact, see Fig. 2b, is added at 11 and the result applied to a proportional channel 12 and an integrator 4, the outputs of which are further combined with an "integration constant" #o to produce #ts, the desired flight path angle for the missile, which controls the missile by a conventional loop 6, 8, 9, 10 therein. It is explained that, by making #tgs = 0 the missile reaches its target asymptotically, as opposed to prior art interception systems. Differential and/or double differential channels may be added in parallel with 4 and 12. The missile may be airborne or an acoustically directed torpedo.
