Abstract

1,064,150. Radar. BRITISH AIRCRAFT CORPORATION (OPERATING) Ltd. Feb. 12, 1964 [Jan. 7, 1963], No. 766/63. Heading H4D In a radar surface-to-air missile guidance system, of the semi-active type, the target is illuminated by the radar beam from the ground and the launcher is directed towards the target. After launching, the missile initially follows a fixed trajectory after the completion of which the missile is free to follow the target by means of its own homing system. The radar beam axis is directed through a zone in front of the target so that when the latter is composed of a group of aircraft the foremost craft is illuminated most intensely and produces the strongest reflection, thereby causing the missile to home on it.
