[Class 138(ii)] The vertically-reciprocatable agitator 26 of a clothes-washing machine consists of a hollow post 28 which is adapted to extend up to normal water level and carries a downwardly-convex flexible conical flange member 32 at its lower end and another flexible conical flange member 46 intermediate its ends. The post 28 is-supported by a vertical rod 36 which extends downwardly to reciprocating mechanism 38 disposed beneath the tub 20. The lower flange 32 is in the form of a flared rubber ring carried from 'the flared lower end of the post by means of a closure washer 34. The upper flange 46 is carried by conical washers 52, 54, the conical washer 54 being held in position by a set-screw 53 and having a plurality of openings 48 disposed adjacent the post 28. The upper washer 52 is spaced from the post 28 to produce an annular opening 50. The bottom of the tub has corrugations of the form of five concentric rings 56 and three stepped rings 58, and a radial groove in the corrugations 56 drains to an outlet 57. Flexible bellows 42 seal the bottom part of the reciprocating rod 36. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the lower flange 130 which carries a rubber ring 132, is attached by a spider 127 to the rod 136, and the upper flange 144, carrying a rubber ring 146, is adjustably mounted on the post 126 by a set-screw 151. The post 126 has notches, or is screw-threaded, to provide for the adjustment thereon of the flange 144. Specifications 586,423 and 589,374 are referred to.
