[Class 138 (ii)] A single-tub washing and centrifugal drying machine has the tub and a frame resiliently mounted in the outer casing, the frame having at least three friction dampers spaced around it to resist vertical and circumferential movement of the frame on its supports. The driving mechanism may be as described in Specification 452,402 and is supported in a casing 11 bolted at one end to a rung or frame 12 and at the other end to a forked bracket 13 bolted to the casing, and is driven by a belt 15 and pulleys 16, 17 from an electric motor 18 carried in rubber rings 19 in arms 20 of a base 21 bolted to the frame 12. The frame is carried on springs 22 seated at 24 on the upper ends of caster brackets 4a and equally spaced round the frame, and is friction damped by strips 29 hung on brackets 30 on the frame 12 and slotted to work on studs 32 between friction washers 31 under pressure of springs 34. A housing 26 fast to the casing 11 has a pair of rubber rings 27 to grip between them a flange 28 on the sleeve 10 which passes through the top 27b of the housing with enough clearance to allow gyration of the tub due to unbalance in the clothes during drying. To centralise the tub for washing a conical rubber collar 35 clamped on the sleeve 10 is brought down by the weight of the charge of washing water on to a seating 38 on a cylindrical post 39 secured to the bottom of the casing, leakage being prevented by a rubber sleeve 40 clamped to the sleeve 10 and the post 39. A flexible hose 49 connects the casing outlet 50 to the pump 48 which returns overflow during washing to the tub to keep the liquid level. When required to empty the tub the pump discharge nozzle 52 can be led over a sink.
