Abstract
609,904. Sandals. ATLAS-UNION SHOE CO., Ltd., and ATLAS, A. March 25, 1946, No. 9118. [Class 17(ii)] The upper of a sandal comprises two separate or initially separate strap-like ankle portions one at each side which extend upwards from the heel seat and downwards to form integral extensions which cover at least the sides-of the heel. The heel may be of any form but preferably is of the wedge shape, as shown, and of rectangular cross-section. Where a lining 13 is provided this is not co-extensive with the extensions on the upper and is turned in and secured either to the underside of the insole or between the heel and outer sole. As shown, the upper consists of two tapering portions 2 each of which is extended to cover the sides and also the front and back faces of the heel 5. The pieces 2 may be joined by a piece of elastic 10 covered by a bow 11. A strap 12 passes round the ankle portion of the foot above the heel. The heel 5 with its associated ankle portions 2 may be made detachable and interchangeable with other units of different colour or other characteristics.
