609,862. Unloading vehicles. RAE, J. S. March 19, 1946, No. 8436. [Class 78 (iv)] In tractor-drawn farm vehicles of the hopper type for transporting and depositing root crops of the kind having an opening in the lower rear part of the hopper, a slide for controlling the opening, an endless conveyer pivoted to the rear part of the vehicle and means for driving the conveyer from the power take-off shaft of the tractor, mechanical means is provided for adjusting the position of the conveyer and for retaining it in adjusted position. The side frame members 19 of the conveyer 18 are pivotally mounted on a shaft 16 which carries the conveyer driving drum 17 and is connected by chain-and-sprocket gearing 26, 27 to a shaft 28. This shaft is driven through bevel gears 30, 31 by a shaft 32 which is connected to the power take-off shaft through a clutch. Ropes 21 anchored to the hopper at 22 are passed round pulleys 20 on the members 19 to winch drums 23 on a shaft 24 which is mounted on the rear wall of the hopper. The shaft is turned by a crank 25 and is locked in any position by pawl-and-ratchet mechanism 33.
