Abstract
809,022. Vehicles equipped with endless conveyer floors. MASSEY-HARRIS-FERGUSON Inc. April 15, 1955 [May 7, 1954], No. 10852/55. Classes 78 (1) and 78 (4). An endless conveyer moving over the floor of a vehicle is driven by a ratchet wheel 25 driven by a pawl 26 which engages the ratchet wheel over a driving angle determined by the position of a sleeve 33 carried by an adjustable arm 37. In the construction illustrated the arm 37 pivots on a shaft 9 carrying the ratchet wheel 25 and the tail sprockets 7 for a pair of laterally spaced chains 4 which are joined by slats to form the vehicle floor. The arm 37 is held by a spring-biased pawl 41 which engages any of three notches 38, 39, 40 in any of three positions in which, respectively, the pawl 26 is effective over the pitch of two ratchet teeth, the pitch of one ratchet tooth, and totally ineffective. A spring-biased pawl 30 prevents reverse rotation. The ratchet lever 27 carrying the pawl 26 is operated by a connecting rod 24 connected to a crank (not shown) on a lateral shaft mounted at the front of the trailer and driven, through a torque-limiting clutch, from the power take-off of a tractor.
