[Class 39(iii)] [Also in Group XXXV] In an electrically heated test-tube holder the temperature is maintained substantially constant by a thermostat situated at a point in the system in which the temperature variations are larger than those at the holder. As shown, the heating lamp 4, which is controlled by thermostat 6, acts directly on the metal surface 3 common with the socket 16 and the thermostat holder 5. A spigot on the test-tube holder 1 fits the socket 16 and the metal plate 7 serves to cool the thermostat. After switching on the temperature of the test-tube holder 1 fluctuates between various limits about a mean temperature under the control of the thermostat which is subjected to the larger temperature variations of the thermostat holder.
