Abstract

Gases and solid materials are brought into intimate contact in apparatus with superposed supports in which the supports 1 are arranged in a chamber 2 and formed with concentric slots 4 into which extend from below tines 5 <PICT:0609515/III/1> <PICT:0609515/III/2> secured to bars 6 extending from a rotatable shaft 8 to which is also secured a plough 11. Gases may be introduced by the inlet 19 and passed through the solid and through ducts 3 to an outlet 20, while solids are introduced at 18, collected in the hopper 12 and discharged at 13 by means of the plough 14, gas locks being provided at 13 and 18. The invention has a variety of applications, including gas purification, roasting of ores, dehydration and neutralization.
